Natural teeth can last your whole life. If one of your teeth becomes injured or decayed, usually it can be saved through a procedure called Root Canal Therapy. Dr. Bohrod has extensive experience in saving teeth through this procedure.
What is Root Canal Therapy?
Root Canal Therapy involves making a small access opening through the bite surface of the tooth, removing all decayed areas of the tooth, and removing damaged tissue inside of the tooth. The damaged tissue is replaced with material that seals off the root canal from the surrounding tissue. In the past, severely damaged teeth were extracted and lost. This procedure allows the patient to keep the tooth longer.
Usually, treatment requires one to three visits as there are several steps in the process of completing successful Root Canal (Endodontic) Therapy. After the tooth is anesthetized, so the patient experiences no discomfort, the procedure can be completed in a series of half hour visits.
After successfully completing the procedure, a crown is usually placed on the treated tooth.
